Holiday Christmas Trees
Each year the local Chamber of Commerce hosts a Christmas Tree decorating contest for local businesses and community organizations that pay a small fee to participate.
In 2021 the Optimist Club invited the 4th graders at Achieve Academy to take one of the ten tenants of the Optimist Creed and create a holiday card the represents the students interpretation of the selected tenant. The 5.5” x 8.5” cards were laminated and used as the basis of the ornaments for the outdoor tree. Members of the club and volunteers came together to string lights and decorate the tree.
Later in December the community voted on their favorite holiday tree.
Scarecrows at Kellogg Park
The Plymouth Canton Optimist Club participates in the annual Scarecrows at Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth, Michigan. Each fall beginning at the end of September, local business and community organizations are invited to create a scarecrow in Kellogg Park.
Later in October, the community comes together to select their favorite scarecrow and enjoy cider and doughnuts. The Optimist Club scarecrow usually depicts a representation that celebrates club values or work with children..
Road Clean-Up
The Plymouth Canton Optimist Club participates in the Wayne County Community Road Clean-up Program twice yearly. Members of our club and volunteers gather to clean-up a mile long section of road in Plymouth, Michigan in order to maintain a more beautiful and greener roadway.
The county supplies all of the materials used to clean up the road by providing safe rules for the volunteers to follow, the orange trash bags, and the pick-up of the filled trash bags after the event. The Wayne County Road Commission provides a sign along the roadway proclaiming that this section of road is maintained by the Plymouth Canton Optimist Club.
